FAQ

Answers to the questions people ask most about Cube, and fixes for the problems they run into.

About Cube

Do my agents keep running when I close my laptop?

Yes. Your agents run in terminals on your cloud computer, not on your Mac, so they keep working when you close the app or your laptop. Open Cube from any device and every terminal is still there.

Do I need a Mac?

The Cube app runs on Macs with Apple Silicon. You can also use Cube in any browser at app.cube.computer, and on your phone. See Phone app.

Do I use my own Claude or ChatGPT subscription?

Yes. You sign in to Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode, Gemini CLI and the other agents with your own accounts. Agent subscriptions and model usage are billed by their providers, not by Cube.

Which agents can I use?

22 agents install in one click from Agents & Tools: Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode, Gemini CLI, Aider, goose, Amp, Cursor CLI, GitHub Copilot CLI, Droid, Crush, Qwen Code, Kimi Code CLI, Mistral Vibe, Continue CLI, Kiro CLI, Hermes Agent, OpenClaw, Pi, omp, fx and Herdr. An agent that isn't installed yet shows Install, which opens a terminal on your computer and runs its installer; installed ones show Run. See Agents and tools.

Price and credit

How much does Cube cost?

From $12 a month for 2 vCPUs running around the clock, or $4 a month paused. Each vCPU costs $6 a month running and $2 paused, with RAM and SSD included. You pay from prepaid credit, metered per second; there is no subscription. See Credit and billing.

Is there a free trial?

New accounts start with $25 of free credit, with no card required. That covers about 2 months of the smallest computer running all the time.

Are the vCPUs dedicated or shared?

Shared. Each vCPU comes with 2 GB of guaranteed RAM and 15 GB of NVMe SSD, and a computer can use up to 16 GB more RAM when capacity allows. Choose 2 to 32 vCPUs when you create a computer.

Can I resize my computer?

Not for now. A computer keeps the size it was created with. For a different size, create a new computer. See Machine.

Troubleshooting

My agent stopped overnight

Check your computer's status in Machine:

  • Paused: someone paused it, or your credit ran out. Pausing stops running processes; your files stay. Add credit if you need to, then choose Resume.
  • Running: the computer is fine, so the agent itself ended. Open its terminal to see why.

Closing the app or your laptop never pauses your computer; only Pause, or running out of credit, does. See Run an agent overnight.

Can I use sudo or apt?

Not yet: Cube computers don't give you root access. Install tools that don't need root into your home folder instead.

What's the SSH host for my computer?

Cube writes an SSH host for each computer to your Mac: a file in ~/.ssh named after the host, included from ~/.ssh/config. Hosts start with cube- and are made from your account and computer IDs, not the computer's name. To list them:

grep -h '^Host cube-' ~/.ssh/cube-*.config

The user is ubuntu. To connect the Claude or Codex app, use Use this Cube in Claude or Use this Cube in Codex in Machine. See Connect the Claude and Codex apps.

Cube can't see my GitHub organization's repositories

Repository access comes from Connect GitHub, separate from how you sign in to Cube. It asks GitHub for access to your repositories and to read your organizations. If you connected before joining an organization, or didn't approve every permission, choose Reconnect GitHub in Repository access.

If your organization restricts third-party apps, its repositories stay hidden until an owner approves Cube in the organization's GitHub settings.

My credit ran out

Your computer pauses and its running processes stop. Your files stay. Add credit, then choose Resume in Machine. Your balance stops at $0, so charges never turn into debt.
